Some Symi snapshots for you to enjoy.
The photograph at the top of the page shows fragments of heart-shaped confetti on the sand the morning after a big wedding at the Pedi Beach Hotel recently. A few hours later it was all gone, washed away by the wake of passing water taxis and ferry boats.
Good to be reading your blog now Adriana, Love Liz K..xx
Is that the same George Kalodoukas who run the restaurant at the top of the Kale strata?
No, you are thinking of Giorgio Voyatzis. Giorgio is also deceased but his taverna is still there and is as popular as ever. George Kalodoukas was one of the founding fathers of tourism in Symi and his business was Kalodoukas Holidays, which also still exists as a business. Kalodoukas was the agent for the well-known Laskarina Holidays.
I hadn’t realised George had died. Sad news. We spent many a happy hour on the Agios Nikolaos 23 years when we visited Symi with Laskarina. I knew the boat was languishing in Pedi and I’m so pleased that it has been restored. Is it being used for trips or is it privately owned.
As far as I know it is still in the Kalodoukas family. The boat had not been used for excursions for many years and was in the process of a refit at the time of George’s death. If you Google Adriana’s Symi George Kalodoukas you should be able to see the obituary I put up on my old blog on the old Symi Visitor website.
